Question by Bryce: Why do the Boston Celtics mispronounce “Celtics”?
I’ve looked all over the Internet and so far haven’t found any information on why the basketball Celtics pronounce the name with an “ess” sound rather than the “kay” sound. Was this done intentionally, to distinguish them from the ancient inhabitants of Scotland and Ireland and Breton, or out of Bostonian ignorance? I prefer to believe the former.

It’s always been a soft C. Maybe the ancient inhabitants of Scotland and Ireland had it wrong.
